How to Care for Your Human Hair Extensions to Make Them Last

A well-cared-for bundle of 100% human hair can last a year or more with the right routine. Because our extensions are real human hair rather than synthetic fiber, they respond to care almost exactly like your natural hair does — which means good habits make a real, lasting difference. Here's how to keep yours looking luxurious for the long haul.

Washing Wash your extensions every 1–2 weeks, or whenever they start to feel product-heavy or lose their bounce — over-washing dries hair out just as much as under-washing lets it build up product. Always use a sulfate-free shampoo, since sulfates strip hair of natural moisture faster on extensions than on hair still attached to a scalp. Wash in one direction, from root to tip, and never scrub or twist the hair into a bunch, which causes tangling and shedding.

Drying Gently squeeze out excess water with a microfiber towel or soft cotton t-shirt — never a regular terry towel, which roughs up the hair cuticle and leads to frizz. Let hair air dry whenever possible. If you need to blow-dry, use a low heat setting and always apply a heat protectant first.

Detangling Detangle before washing, not after. Wet hair is at its most fragile, so brushing it while soaked significantly increases shedding and breakage. Use a wide-tooth comb or a wet brush, and always start at the ends, working your way up in small sections rather than pulling a brush straight from root to tip.

Storage When you're not wearing your bundles, store them somewhere dry and dust-free — a satin or silk bag works best. Braid or loosely twist the hair before storing to prevent matting, and keep it away from direct sunlight and humidity, both of which can dull shine and disrupt curl or wave pattern over time.

Product Use Less is more. A lightweight leave-in conditioner and a small amount of hair oil (argan or coconut oil both work well) applied mid-shaft to ends will keep the hair soft without weighing it down. Avoid heavy, silicone-dense products at the roots, which can cause buildup that's harder to wash out of extensions than natural hair.

Heat Styling Because it's 100% human hair, you can safely straighten, curl, or blow-dry your EMAC HAIR bundles — just always use a heat protectant spray first, and keep your styling tool below 180°C (350°F) to avoid drying the hair out over repeated use.
